Blue Marble Ice Cream 07-11-2010

Location: 196 Court St.
Time: 6pm
People: RB, Mum, and myself

Feelings: I started to feel cynical toward people who say how enjoyable parenting is. Although it is extremely rewarding to love something so deeply, this is by far the most difficult thing RB and I have ever had to endure. Perhaps for some people, babies would give them the purpose and meaning to their lives, but for two New Yorkers who were quite comfortable and truly content with their lives, this presents many new challenges. Perhaps we are too much of the stereotypical Brooklyn parents: people who must do everything perfectly and struggle and stress to follow all the newest parenting tips for fear of doing something wrong. Or maybe we are just really, really tired.

To take a bit of a break from the madness of newborn care, we enjoyed ourselves some ice cream from the new creamery on Court Street, Blue Marble Ice Cream. Everything at this creamery is organic and grass-fed, but unfortunately they don't have many flavors available. We tried orange creamsicle and banana chocolate chips, which was about $8 for a pint. It is indeed overpriced but worth every penny for its amazing texture and unique flavor. Our favorite was by far the creamy banana flavor with chocolate chips. It was incredibly smooth, and the fresh texture made me feel I was enjoying this ice cream on the dairy farm. Usually just the thought of a dairy farm would give me a stomachache due to my severe lactose issues, but today, that thought of a relaxing farm isn't that bad. Just a little ice cream break with Lactaid and a thought of a dairy farm can comfort me right now.

According to their website, their flavors change periodically, so I'd love to go back to try some more. Perhaps ginger flavor next time.

Use of the word "endure" makes me think you may need a breakie. Let me know if you need anything! I <3 the babies, especially before they can talk back.

Mos def. Let me and Thurmon know if you ever need babysitters! I think it'd also be good for Thurmon to know exactly how difficult it is to have a child before he gets on me about "having kids before I'm thirty" or whatever.
Ice cream seems to always be going up in price. I was so happy when I got a bargain on sorbet from Haagan Dazs.

Hang in there - the sleep deprivation can really do you in those first few months! It does get easier. (Right up until they learn to walk and talk. And then they turn three, and you start to wonder how much you could get for them on eBay...)
