Pupusas at Brooklyn Flea 02-07-2010

Location: 1 Hanson Pl. Fort Greene, Red Hook Food Vendor
Time: 3:30pm
People: Mum, RB and myself

Feelings: RB and I took Mum to Brooklyn Flea for some shopping. Brooklyn Flea moved indoors during winter into the landmark, former Williamsburgh Saving Bank. Even if you are not interested in the flea market, I highly recommend taking a tour in this beautiful landmark. Especially the old bank vault on the basement is a must-see!

In the basement area there were few food vendors out including cupcakes, cookies, tacos, Asiadog, and Brooklyn Brew Shop where you can buy your at home beer brewery kit for $45. We were tempted to buy the kit but decided with three pupusas ($5, one pork and jalapeno and one spinach and a side of pickled cabbage) from Red Hook Food Vendor instead. The pupusas were a bit dry and bland, but the pickled cabbage was crunchy and perfectly tangy-sweet and easily the best part of the meal.

Mum also tried Fort Greene's famous bakery, Choice Market's coffee, but she said it was burnt and perhaps the worst coffee she had in New York. They usually get great reviews, so perhaps they had a bad day brewing their coffee today.

The Flea at this current location will be open every weekend until March 28th, so if you are in the area, you should definitely stop by for some fun afternoon. I have a feeling RB will be going back there to pick up the home beer brewery kit he fell in love with...
