Q2 Thai Lunch with Showtime Ops! 04-10-2009

Location: 788 9th Ave
Time: 1pm
People: Showtime Ops! SaSha, BeBe, PeeWee, KL, GB and myself

Feelings: We are quickly running out of Thai places in Midtown West, but to celebrate SaSha's birthday we decided to take another venture to Hell's Kitchen. Menupages lists 47 Thai restaurants in Midtown West, and we are making it our mission to try them all.

As soon as we sat down at Q2 Thai, we noticed their amazing lunch deal. Most Thai restaurants have similar lunch specials, but this one was even more spectacular. The $6.95 lunch special consists of: soft drink, appetizer, salad and entrée. With such a great deal, I was amazed that the place was not packed. Perhaps because it was Good Friday/Passover.

Their salad and dumplings were nothing special, but the entrées were quite satisfying. Three of us ordered the drunken noodles with tofu. It was one of the better noodle dishes I have had in the area. The noodles were well cooked and not mushy or chewy as I have found at some other Thai places, and the sauce had a nice amount of heat. It was not too greasy, so I was able to enjoy the meal without any stomach issues. The rest of the group enjoyed their red curry and chicken dish and declared that Q2 Thai is one of the best Thai places in the area. The server was wearing gloves, which seemed a bit unusual, but did give me the sense of cleanliness. The only thing that I have to complain is that the bartender was coughing furiously, and as I write this I can feel my cold symptoms developing.

But honestly, after our Ramen and Friends' outing at Sripraphai, I see Thai food differently.
It is hard to eat Thai food now and not think of their rich fish oil flavors. I somehow feel that I might be eating the Thai version of Olive Garden instead of real authentic Thai cuisine. Sripraphai ruined my Manhattan Thai experience!
