Tamarind Tea Room 08-13-2013

Location: 41-43 E. 22nd St.
Time: 12:30pm
People: JR, StevenC and myself

Feelings: Tamarind Tea Room, located next door to the fine dining Indian spot Tamarind, is a great place for relaxing lunch and variety of tea. "Tea for One" ($16) is a great deal that includes a pot of tea, sandwich and Indian sweets. There are variety of teas to choose from: oolong, white, black, green, herbal, and if you are completely indecisive, there is a "suggested tea" line under each dish.

"Tamarind Salad" ($8.50, endive, cherry tomatoes, fresh herbs and capers with ginger vinaigrette) is a perfectly refreshing salad for a summer lunch. The harmonious combination of bitter, sweet and tangy makes this dish more exciting and complex. And who doesn't want a giant magenta hibiscus on the top of your salad?

Have no fear, bread haters--these sandwiches are actually naan wraps. StevenC ordered Malai Tikka ($10) but somehow ended up with Tandoori Salmon ($11). He thoroughly enjoys the mistaken wrap nonetheless, and the portion was more than generous with a side of fresh salad.

Some people may enjoy Kati Roll or other delicious Curry Hill spots, but don't forget this is a tea room. You are here to relax, not to stuff your face with saag paneer and paratha and go back to work. The service is on the slow side as well, so make sure to take your time and enjoy your company over a fresh pot of tea.

i love this place! I went a few months ago. The service is so friendly, you feel like a regular (at least that's how it was when we were there).
