NYC Cravings 11-1-2010

Location: 51st b/w 6th and 7th
Time: 12:30pm
People: AP and myself

Feelings: If you know any authentic Taiwanese restaurants in Midtown, do let me know. But as far as I know, NYC Cravings Truck is the only one available. On this cold cloudy day, there was about 5-10 minutes wait. If I ate meat and value portions, this would be my ideal lunch truck. For $7, you get tons of food in a large container filled with rice and meat, generously drizzled in their famous pork sauce.

It is always difficult to find ovo-pescatarian friendly food from authentic Asian food vendors, but luckily they had budda's delight ($4) and zongzi ($4) available. They were both quite salty, but the texture of Zongzi was sticky and excellent. It was a bit messy for cubicle lunch. Zongzi is a lot like eating crab meat: you work hard to get the tiny bit of meat inside from shells, and the tasty reward justifies all the messy work.

AP thought his Taiwanese fried chicken over rice with pork sauce ($7) and dumplings were disappointing and felt like they were a truck version of cheap and dirty fast food. "Cheap and a huge portions..but not good," said AP.

Just in case I get a craving for zongzi, it is nice to know that the truck is available every Monday in Midtown. I just wish there were more Taiwanese lunch spots available near my work...instead of another Starbucks, bodegas or banks.

Great post! I’m looking to make some changes in my own eating habits and learning to cook, so I appreciate your insight a lot! Thank you. I recently stumbled upon this blog like I did yours and I thought your readers may appreciate it: http://burisonthecouch.wordpress.com/2010/11/04/food-for-thought/

I’ve started to look for their stuff more regularly and I think I’m going to add your blog to my list as well. Thanks for the post!
