Clinton Street Baking Co. & Restaurant 02-03-2009

Location: 4 Clinton St.
Time: 3:30pm
People: Mum and myself

Feelings: BLee told me that Clinton Street Baking Co is celebrating the pancake month by serving special pancakes throughout February. Conveniently my mother is in town, so I took her there for a late lunch. Strangely enough, the place was packed with Japanese tourists as well as locals.

Mum ordered the pancake du jour, chocolate & blood orange pancakes with a candied orange glaze ($15), and I had brioche french toast ($13, caramelized bananas, roasted pecans, warm maple butter). She thought the portion of the pancakes was far too large, which is quite a common complaint for many people not used to American portions. She wished they served two pancakes instead of four and lowered their price. The pancakes themselves were quite simple and not greasy. Because of the simplicity of the pancakes, the orange puree and the chocolate were able to compliment the dish, which resulted in a flavorful, decadent meal.

My french toast was a bit on the dry side, but the maple butter made it moist and succulent. Still, it was not as good as the one from The Farm on Adderley, and I should have probably ordered pancakes since those are what they are known for. Or I could have ordered their savory dish instead and stopped at Dessert Truck Works next door!
