El Nuevo Portal 12-16-2009

Location: 217 Smith St.
Time: 9pm
People: JLam watched, RB and myself

Feelings: When we first moved to the BoCoCa area, I noticed the lack of authentic Latin or Asian restaurants. At first I was not sure how I was going to survive, but thanks to places like El Nuevo Portal, I think I am content for now.

It is more of a lunch counter/take out friendly place with a small and clean dining room. RB ordered arroz con pollo, ($8, rice with chicken) and it took more than 15 minutes to get his take out order. It was a bit slow, but the service was very nice. The portion was huge! RB and I ate a bit as a late night snack, and RB enjoyed the rest at lunch the next day. It is indeed a great value for $8.

The rice was seasoned well with heavily on pepper and garlic. RB thought the chicken was tender and flavorful. This was one of the ultimate comfort food dishes, and it is very hard to find one in this area with such a great value. RB, we are not in Queens anymore.. but we do have El Nuevo on our side.
