Indus Express 08-26-2009

Location: 48 West 48th St.
Time: 12:30pm
People: jalapeƱos_james and myself

Feelings: I used to think the midtown consisted of only my dentist's office and Applebee's until I started working in the area and found plenty of decent cheap eats. But I was still skeptical about Rockefeller Center. How could this touristy NBC family heaven have any possible lunch spot? They have at least one: Indus Express!

It sure is not at the level of places in Jackson Heights, but Indus Express offers a rather fast and reasonable Indian food. It is a perfect place to grab a quick lunch in the area. And they were nice enough to let me take pictures of the kitchen. They probably thought I was some crazy Japanese tourist who has never seen a Tandoor oven. Right, I have never seen inside of a Tandoor, so I looked in there at once and took a picture. Somehow it reminded me of Jabba the Hut.

I was overwhelmed by the large selection of dishes on the menu, but I eventually ordered malasa dosa, rice pancakes with mashed potato and onion wrapped inside. The dosa stayed crisp, and the mash was seasoned very well. Everything tasted very fresh and not greasy. JNap's chicken kati was tasty and overstuffed with vegetables.

I am sorry Rockefeller Center for doubting you. You can actually have a decent lunch in the area, and I am sure to go back to Indus Express some time soon.
